We sell both. So this is not a sales pitch for one against the other – it is the comparison we walk every client through before they choose.

The short version

Wax is a look. Ceramic is protection. Wax gives paint a warm, deep shine that lasts about 4-8 weeks in New Jersey conditions. A ceramic coating chemically bonds to the clear coat and protects it for years. They are not really competitors – they are different tools.

Where wax honestly wins

  • Budget today. A wax detail costs a fraction of a coating.
  • Show prep. Before a car show or a sale weekend, a fresh carnauba layer is beautiful.
  • Classic car character. Some collectors simply prefer the warm glow of wax – fair.

Where ceramic wins – and keeps winning

Do the 3-year math above. A car waxed every 6 weeks costs more than a mid-range coating and spends most of its life between protection windows – which in New Jersey means salt season with bare paint. A coated car is protected in January at 6 a.m. when nobody is re-waxing anything. Never wax again is not a slogan – it is the maintenance schedule.

There is also the honest middle ground: our 6-month ceramic wax upgrade ($60-100 with a detail) – more durability than carnauba, fraction of a full coating. It is the right answer for leases and short-term ownership.

What we would put on your car

Bring it by – the answer depends on the paint’s condition, how you park, and how long you are keeping the car. The consultation is free and we will tell you if the cheaper option is the right one. That is how we would rather earn the coating jobs.

Wax vs ceramic – FAQ

Can I wax over a ceramic coating?

You can, but you mostly should not – wax masks the coating’s self-cleaning behavior. Use a compatible SiO2 topper instead.

Is a ceramic wax the same as a ceramic coating?

No. Ceramic-infused waxes last about 6 months. A true coating is professionally applied, cures hard and lasts years.

My car is new – do I even need anything?

New paint is unprotected paint. Coating a new car is actually ideal: minimal correction needed, maximum coating life.
